What is a maximum-cashout clause?
A maximum-cashout clause sets a stated cap on the amount that can be withdrawn or retained under specified conditions. In promotions, the wording may refer to bonus-related winnings, winnings from free spins, or another defined amount. Do not assume it applies to every balance or every promotion: the clause must be read in context with the full terms and the rules in the relevant jurisdiction.
Identify exactly what is capped
Read the full promotion terms and identify the defined balance, event and timing. A cap might be described as applying to bonus winnings, free-spin winnings, winnings after wagering, or the value of a particular promotion. Check whether the clause refers to gross winnings, the amount remaining after wagering, or the amount eligible for withdrawal. If the wording does not define this clearly, do not infer the answer from a headline.
Read the surrounding restrictions too
- What counts as winnings: distinguish deposited cash, bonus funds, and winnings linked to a promotion.
- Wagering requirements: check the multiplier base, eligible games, contribution rates, and when wagering is considered complete.
- Expiry and cancellation: find what happens if the bonus expires, is cancelled, or you request a withdrawal before completion.
- Other limits: check maximum stakes, eligible payment methods, minimum withdrawal amounts and any separate withdrawal caps.
- Exceptions: look for conditions that may change the cap for a specific offer, game, country or customer group.
- Disputes: find the formal complaint route and the independent body or regulator relevant to your location.
Do not rely on a banner or summary
Promotional banners can omit important conditions. Save a dated copy of the full terms and the offer page, including the operator's legal name and the version or date if provided. Do not assume a rule is universal across brands, countries, games or promotions.
Example: a cap is not the same as a withdrawal limit
Imagine hypothetical terms saying “free-spin winnings are capped at 50 units.” That phrase is not enough to establish whether the cap applies before or after wagering, whether it applies per spin package or per account, or how any remaining cash balance is treated. A separate bank-transfer limit may also apply to withdrawals. These are illustrative examples, not real offers or universal rules. Ask the operator to explain the exact calculation in writing if the terms do not answer it.
Questions to ask the operator
- Exactly which funds or winnings are subject to the cap?
- Is the amount calculated before or after wagering requirements?
- When does the cap apply, and are there any exceptions?
- How are deposited cash and winnings not linked to the promotion treated?
- Where are the complete terms and current version date?
- Which complaint and dispute-resolution route applies in my jurisdiction?
