Self-exclusion and support

If gambling no longer feels manageable, practical barriers and support can help create space. You do not have to handle it alone.

What self-exclusion means

Self-exclusion is a voluntary restriction that may block access to gambling services for a chosen period or longer. The process and coverage depend on the operator and jurisdiction. Ask what services are covered, how the restriction starts, and whether it can be reversed.

Other barriers that may help

  • Ask the operator about account closure or time-out tools.
  • Consider bank-level gambling transaction blocks where available.
  • Use device-level blocking tools and remove saved payment details.
  • Tell a trusted person what support would be useful.
  • Seek professional help if gambling is affecting finances, relationships, or wellbeing.

Find support in your country

Use an official public-health service or a recognised local support organisation. For Great Britain, the GamCare service offers information and support. Availability and eligibility vary internationally; this example is not a substitute for finding the appropriate service where you live.

Choosing a support service

Check that a service operates in your country, explains its confidentiality policy, and provides clear ways to get help. A resource listed for Great Britain may not be available to people elsewhere. If you are unsure where to start, a local public-health service may be able to direct you to appropriate support.

If there is immediate danger

If you feel at risk of harming yourself or someone else, contact local emergency services or a crisis service in your country now, and reach out to someone you trust.

There is no need to win money back. Chasing losses can increase harm. A pause and outside support are valid next steps.
